Albert Einstein is one of my favorite people ever. He encompasses what I feel it is to be a smart, successful individual in this world. My favorite quote by him say, "A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am i or the others crazy?" That's another post for another day though...maybe you'll get my thoughts on that next week. He's just so full of insight it's hard to pick just one great thing! But today's focus is insanity. On this topic he says, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result."
This speaks to me this morning because I just took my GRE over the weekend for the second time, and although I did above average I didn't do as well as I needed for the program I'm trying to get into. I cried and cried and cried and cried! You should have seen my face, you would have thought someone had died. Later when I was talking to my mother she began suggesting things I could do for the next time. At this point the last thing I want to think about is the next time, and I definitely didn't want any advice on how to do better because I felt I did everything I could have to get a good score. Then this quote popped into my head and I began to hear her out. I have one more time to take this test and I could do the same thing I did the last time and probably get the very same result or I could try something new and see if it benefits me.
So many people today want to do better and change things in their lives, but are so closed off to alternatives that they end up acting insane, myself included. I was just so sure that my way was the best way and that there was nothing else I could do to get a better score and that was insane. My mom has been to grad school, she's put in the time, taken the test, done the work, and is incredibly successful in her field. I was so focused on doing things on my own I forgot all the tools I had around me to help me succeed. This quote doesn't just go for school, but it reaches all aspects of your life. If you want a successful relationship maybe you should try something different this next time around to see if you get a better result. If you're looking for a job, but haven't had luck on your own why don't you try speaking with other people that have jobs and ask how they did it, post your resume on social sites, etc. DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Don't be insane; when it feels like you've done all you can do and still failed DON'T GIVE UP. Keep trying and keep changing your tactic until you find one that works for you. USE EVERY RESOURCE YOU CAN. The people in your life are there to help and teach you, so use them. Go out this week and try again, if you've tried 1,000 times with no luck, regroup and give it one more shot! Don't be insane. Do something different, be great, and most of all, Be You.
